The case of Eliezer Chen has served as an impetus for Israel and Brazil to sign an extradition agreement, a document that is set to be signed on Wednesday. Brazil will become the first South American country to sign such an agreement with Israel. Representing Israel in the signing ceremony will be Tourism Minister Stas Misezhnikov, who is accompanying the president on the official state visit.
The new agreement is seen as a direct result of the recent Brazilian extradition of the “abusive rabbi” as Lior Chen has become known, an extradition that was a direct result of intensive Israeli diplomatic intervention.
