IDF Seeking to Curtail Water & Electric Usage

The IDF is embarking on a campaign to curtail use of water and electricity in the military, reporting it annually spends NIS 300 million on electricity. The goal for this year is to cut electric costs by 10%, NIS 30 million. The goal for water consumption has not been announced, but towards achieving these goals, additional meters are being installed to permit more accurate monitoring of usage in the military.

Chief of IDF Logistics Branch Brigadier-General Nissim Peretz has devised a plan, explaining all commanders will receive a periodic readout, for each billing and those units exceeding permitted use of water and electric will be summoned by their commanders, as well as by Brig.-Gen. Peretz.

Devices have also been installed in showers and toilets to reduce water consumption.

Similar measures were implemented last year regarding gasoline use, and officers with military vehicles were given a monthly gas cap, setting a ceiling for free military fuel when in the past, they were permitted unlimited use.
