Several months after Sa’ad Hariri, the son of assassinated Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri assumed leadership in Lebanon, Hizbullah has entered into an agreement and has officially entered the ruling government, receiving five cabinet posts. The actual agreement is expected to be finalized by week’s end.
The move is made possible after both Iran and Syria backed down and halted their opposition to entering the Hariri-led coalition. According to a report in the daily Yisrael HaYom, Iran backed down and the move was followed by Damascus.
This will result in a government of 30 ministers, with about half perceived as moderates, 5 from Hizbullah, 5 Christian Shiites and five personally appointed by President Mishael Suleiman.
