The rav and residents of the Shomron community of Shvut Rachel have released statements to the media distancing themselves from accused murderer and terrorist, Yaakov Teital.
The community’s rav, Rabbi Bentzion Amar, was interviewed by Kikat.net, explaining the community in no way supports the alleged actions of Teital, condemning acts of violence. He stated residents have nothing in common with Teital and his ideology, and do not support such actions. The rav added that other residents of the community were questioned by ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) agents in connection with the case and no connection was found. Officials involved in the case have indicated it appears Teital was operating totally on his own, without the knowledge of others, including his wife.
Rav Amar explains we are dealing with someone who did not grow up in the community, and was educated elsewhere. He stressed that the residents of the community identify with the dati leumi community, law-abiding citizens, working people, who in no way identify with the extremists ways of the accused.
