A bus carrying senior citizens from Ramat Gan flipped over on Friday afternoon in the Dabbah area of Jordan, apparently due to inclement weather. Reports that reached YWN-Israel on motzei shabbos indicate one person was killed and 34 injured, with 10 listed in serious condition and 24 in moderate and light condition.
Jordanian Foreign Ministry officials informed Israel’s Foreign Ministry of the accident a number after it occurred. The injured were transported to local Jordanian hospitals. MDA immediately went to alert status, preparing to send ambulances to Jordan to transport to the injured to Israel. A total of 22 ambulances and 2 helicopters were assigned to the job, to wait to accept the victims at the Allenby Crossing, about a 30-minute drive from the accident site.
Five victims listed in moderate-to-light condition were transported by chopper to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. Four seriously injured victims were transported to Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer. Others, reported in light condition, were transported by ambulance to Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital and Shaare Zedek Medical Center. Some may have also been taken to Ha’emek Hospital in Afula.
After being notified of the accident, Foreign Ministry officials in Israel established a hotline information number, receiving updates from Embassy officials in Jordan who visited the injured in local hospitals.
Jordanian officials reported the accident was the result of the driver losing control of the vehicle during the stormy weather.
