A security person has been stabbed at the Kalandia Checkpoint on the northern border of the capital on Sunday afternoon.
The terrorist in the Sunday afternoon stabbing attack at the Kalandia Checkpoint on Jerusalem’s northern border was a female resident of PA-controlled Ramallah. The 21-year-old terrorist stabbed the security agent in the abdomen. He was listed in moderate condition in the trauma unit of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. The attacker was taken into custody.
While the security agents manning the checkpoint detected a knife concealed in her handbag, they did not detect the knife under her garment, which she pulled as the metal detector sounded.
The attack came amid a day of violence in Yerushalayim, with Arabs attacking security forces on Har HaBayis with rocks and firebombs. At least 18 people were arrested and a number of police and rioters were injured. Fortunately, it appears the injuries to police were relatively light.
Police closed the Mount and did not permit Arab MK Dr. Ahmed Tibi and others to visit; deciding the fear of renewed violence outweighed a need to permit the holy site to remain open. Police in and around the Old City remain on heightened alert status, as does Magen David Adom emergency medical service personnel.
