Maran HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita was discharged from Shaare Zedek Medical Center shortly after noon on erev shabbos.

Physicians treating HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita met on Thursday and decided the gadol hador is out of life-threatening danger as his condition improves. This was confirmed on Friday and the gadol hador was released.

On Thursday, the medical team at Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Yerushalayim decided the rav will remain over shabbos, but if he insists on returning home, arrangements can be made to discharge him with medical supervision in his home. It is unclear if there will be a medical team in the rav’s home over shabbos.

The rav was admitted with fever and coughing, attributed to pneumonia, and after intravenous antibiotic therapy, the fever dissipated and his condition improved significantly. He was placed in a cardiac intensive care unit but doctors explain he did not suffer a cardiac incident, stating the unit permitted a quieter and more medically-monitored environment which was suitable to the rav’s condition.
