A driver who was fined NIS 1,000 for speaking on his cellular telephone while driving decided to appeal, confident he would emerge victorious. The driver told the court that he was remorseful and he would not do it again in the future. He also told the court he was not speaking, but was wiping his brow to deflect the sun, which was interfering with his field of vision. He also claimed that previous offenses were recorded to his vehicle, but he was not the driver.
It appears the driver is not among the wisest of individuals, for the traffic court adjudicating the appeal checked his file, learning he has no less than 30 traffic violations, including 6 for speaking on a cellular telephone while driving, 3 of which led to accidents.
The Jerusalem court was unimpressed with his decision to appeal, doubling the original fine, suspending his license for 45 days and placing him on probation for two years.
