Over 900 Births Last Month at Maynei HaYeshua Hospital

chen.jpgA new record was set last month in Bnei Brak’s Maynei HaYeshua Hospital – recording over 900 births Baruch Hashem. Almost 500 of the September births were boys and about 10% twins – with about the same number born preemie. The previous record was set in December 2008, breaking the 800 mark.

The busiest single day was Yom Kippur 5770, recording over 40 births. Another record set this past September was the birth of 24 infants in a single eight-hour shift. The hospital adds that research conducted by doctors in the hospital over recent years, acting upon a request from gedolei yisrael shlita, reveals the fasting is not a contributory factor to the increased births [as is commonly theorized].

The hospital’s administrative director Nadav Chen points out that since opening its doors two decades ago, over 120,000 mothers have trusted the hospital, its physicians, midwives, nurses and entire medical team – viewed among the top facilities for childbirth. The hospital boasts state-of-the-art equipment in 11 delivery suites which is accompanied by a constant and ongoing effort to have the experience resemble a hotel stay more than a hospital experience.

Chen adds that Drs. Yaakov Landman , Benny Chen and Irit Tavori  lead their respective teams in OB/GYN, delivery and neonatal care, together with nurse Weinstock who oversees 16 critical care stations, stations that offer the most advanced technology in incubators, intensive care systems and medical high-tech technology.

Dr. Chen, who heads the OB/GYN department explains the majority of deliveries are natural births, a startling 88.5% with only 12.5% of deliveries performed by C-section, half of the national average! He attributes this to the unparalleled dedication of the staff and extremely high level of medical professionalism maintained in the unit. Dr. Chen boasts that last year, births increased 10% as more and more moms opt to deliver in Maynei HaYeshua, adding the annual growth has been steady since 2006, reporting 8,472 infants were born in 2008 as compared to 7,685 in 2007 and 6,968 in 2006.

He attributes this to the level of medical professionalism, uncompromising attitude when it comes to halacha and level of care for infants and mothers alike. Maynei HaYeshua ranks fourth in annual number of childbirths according to national statistics.

Nurse Tzipi Luria, who is responsible for the delivery suites, explains that the last year’s growth is another indicator that the residents of yishuvim and the Greater Petach Tikvah area are among the growing number of people who view the hospital as providing the level of medical care, concern and atmosphere they seek.

“. . . research conducted by doctors in the hospital over recent years . . . reveals the fasting is not a contributory factor to the increased births . . . .”

Anybody else find these two statements just a bit strange?
