A high-level Hamas delegation from Gaza traveled to Cairo seeking to postpone ongoing efforts to mediate a ceasefire between Hamas and rival Fatah, which is headed by the PA in Ramallah, Abu Mazen. The reason given is the storm surrounding the Goldstone Commission report and efforts to bring the report to the UN Security Council and international forum.

The UN has decided to postpone addressing the Goldstone Report until March 2010, a decision that is not being accepted favorably by the PA, not in Ramallah or by Hamas in Gaza. Last week, the Security Council rejected a request from Libya to hold a special session to address the report, with the realization by the PA the Security Council is really the only body that can impose meaningful sanctions against Israel. The council announced the Goldstone Report will discuss in the framework of a regular session dealing with the Mideast and not in special session as Libya and the PA are seeking.
