Seismologists are among those against Jordan’s planned construction of a nuclear facility in the Great Rift Valley, a move they insist will risk significantly destabilizing the earthquake fault line in the area.
Jordan and Egypt are planning to harness nuclear energy to create electricity for a number of reasons, being less expensive and increasingly environmental friendly since electricity is produced without greenhouse gases emissions.
The experts opposed to the plan explain that if an earthquake results, the nuclear facility could be damaged and the result could be catastrophic, contaminating Eilat and the area.
