For the first time in Kiryat Gat, a halacha hotline has been set up to operate before Yom Kippur to permit residents to phone with questions pertaining to the fast, primarily people who have chronic illnesses. The phone will be manned by HaGaon HaRav Aryeh Zilberstein, who is affiliated with the Gerre Chassidic community in the city. Alongside the posek will be a number of physicians affiliated with the Leumit HMO, including Dr. Herman Weiss, a frum gynecologist.

Halacha hotlines are operating in other cities as well, permitting residents to speak with rabbonim and physicians to receive clear-cut piskei halacha that apply to their specific situation prior to the fast.
