Arabs Torch Caravans at Gilad Farm

A caravan was set ablaze by Arabs in the Shomron community of Gilad Farm. Itai Zar, a brother of slain security officer Gilad, for whom the community is named, spoke with Kol Chai Radio on Monday afternoon and explained what occurred.

According to Itai, they returned from shul on the second day of Rosh Hashanah at about 1:30pm, and they saw and heard Arabs shouting at them from a distance of about 70-80 meters (yards), and they immediately realized they started a blaze, which spread quickly due to the strong winds. As a result, a home was badly damaged, destroyed in essence from the flames. Other caravans sustained less significant damage but property damage among residents was significant.

Itai explains that firefighters were phoned immediately, and they battled the blaze for about three hours. Nevertheless, two caravans were damaged, one totally destroyed.

He added that since the community is not connected to the national infrastructure, they ran out of water as they battled the blaze. He is now calling on authorities to authorize connecting the community to the national water system.

A number of suspects were arrested as the investigation moves ahead.
