It was far from a relaxing erev Rosh Hashanah in Kiryat Sanz in Netanya this year for a 10-year-old boy disappeared, and was the subject of an all-day search. The missing boy was found in a beis medrash of Chassidei Erlau in Bnei Brak shortly after candle-lighting time.
Shimon’s mother came into his room early erev yomtov to wake him for slichos, but he was gone. It appeared he left during the night. After the Sanz beis medrash was checked and Shimon was not found, authorities indicated it appears that he left on his own. A command post was immediately established and efforts began towards organizing a search for the missing youth.
The family’s fears increased as the hours passed. At one point, one person told officials in charge that the boy was seen in Bnei Brak. After verifying a number of facts, the search was moved from Netanya to Bnei Brak. Shimon was found in the Erlau Beis Medrash at about 6:30pm by mispalalim. The family was notified before yomtov, and Shimon remained in Bnei Brak, with relatives, for Rosh Hashanah.

Wow, what could cause such a young boy to disappear like this?
In Boro Park first night Rosh Hashana the Shomrim had a search for a missing woman fron Ohel found in Williamsburg. And on the second day Yom Tov Shomrim and Hatzala had a search for a missing 8 year old.
And today Shomrim of all divisions had a search for a missing 21 year old from HASC.
Unfortunately people don’t realize how a common occurence it is, and the dedicated volunteers rarely get recognized for their effort.
