An IDF officer of the rank of captain, serving on an air force base, was sent to jail for taking home classified documents and then throwing them out in a trash bin outside his home, against regulations. A neighbor found the documents, which he submitted to military officials.

The officer was questioned and admitted to his actions. Military officials state the disregard for regulations in this case resulted in a serious breach of security and the officer must be sent to prison as a result.

The daily Yisrael HaYom quotes another officer, anonymously, who serves as a pilot, stating the regulation regarding classified documents in the air force are not realistic, demanding permission from a chain of officers to bring a document home, and as such, many just “take the documents they need”.
