Israelis Are Getting Heavier


According to a report in the magazine Medical, Israelis are indeed enjoying their food and they are getting heavier.

The report documents an alarming increase in ‘healthy’ surgical procedures over the past three years, including stomach stapling and other newly-developed techniques intended to reduce our waistlines.

Hadassah’s Dr. Andrei Keidar reports 1,500 of these surgeries in 2006 as compared to 3,100 in 2008 and 3,600 in this past year.

On the positive side, medical experts explain the procedure assist people to lose weight, as well as bringing relief from associated ailments such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep dyspnea, and an array of orthopedic maladies.
