Opposition MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Prof. Aryeh Eldad stated on Tuesday (Sept. 15th) that accepting America’s call for a construction freeze would deliver a lethal blow to efforts to settle communities throughout Yehuda and Shomron.
Eldad rejected America’s blatant interference in Israel’s internal affairs, citing the demands made by the current administration are unprecedented, warning that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has folded in part, and it is a matter of time until he orders a building freeze as the White House demands. Eldad is not moved by Netanyahu’s announcement, giving a green light for less than 500 new housing units, stating the number is insignificant and signals trouble since it does not come close to meeting the demands of the growing housing shortage.
He stated with absolute certainty that it is only a matter of time until the prime minister announced acceptance of the building freeze in one form or another, and this is most worrisome as well as contrary to Israel’s national interests.
