Chareidi Protestor Beaten in Tiveria

char1.jpgAbout 30 chareidim protested outside a Tiveria store on Tuesday, a store that sells pork products. One of the protestors was assaulted and beaten according to a Kav Chadash report.

According to askan R’ Ofir Cohen, the store began selling the traif products a number of months ago but until now, they could not prove it. Now that the store sells the objectionable products in broad daylight, they have decided to begin protesting since many of the city’s residents are opposed to the sale of pork products, including those who are not shomer shabbos.

Askanim report that in light of the assault, they are more determined than ever to step up their battle. They are now working to enlist the support of area rabbonim in the hope of halting the store’s new practice.

  1. “Askanim report that in light of the assault, they are more determined than ever to step up their battle.”

Why the term “battle?” I agree that a Jew selling pork is offensive; moreso in Israel. If a peaceful protestor, with a right to protest at that time and place, was unlawfully assaulted, the offender should be brought to justice. But why is the assault the motivating factor in stepping up the “battle?” Is this about the fight, or the pork?

  2. It’s like “battling” with the Yeitzer horah. Everything in life is a “battle” and the Torah says “ubacharto bachaim”.
