Mr. Noam Shalit is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu in Yerushalayim on Tuesday afternoon at which time the prime minister will brief him on the status of efforts to obtain the release of his son, Gilad.
While in the capital, Mr. Shalit will meet with activists manning the vigil tent, and on Thursday, a vehicle will make its way to Erez Crossing to Gaza, where Gazan journalist Sami Avid, who maintains connections with Hamas, will accept a package that the Shalits wish delivered to their son for Rosh Hashanah. In return, Avid will present 100 packages for Israel to deliver to imprisoned Hamas terrorists to coincide with the Islamic holiday of Id el-Fitr.
As we go to print: Mr. Noam Shalit met with the prime minister and was updated on ongoing efforts to obtain his son’s release. He told reporters he and his family are upset that Gilad is about to spend his fourth Rosh Hashanah in captivity, and at present, “there is still no light at the end of the tunnel”.
