Despite launching a formidable opposition, dating back to 2008, with left-wingers in the capital opposed to naming a street after late Arutz-7 Radio host Adir Zik Z”L, known for his outspoken criticism against the leftist secular agenda that prevails in many areas of the state.
Despite the opposition, the Jerusalem Naming Committee finally approved naming a street in the Ramat Eshkol area of the city, where he lived, after him. Zik was niftar in 2005, after a long painful illness. His “Adir’s Fireworks” program on Arutz- 7 Radio was extremely popular, and he used the forum to criticize the Oslo process and the politicians who favored giving away areas of Eretz Yisrael to Israel’s enemies. Zik caused a major stir when he began focusing on conspiracy theories regarding the assassination of Prime Minister Yitzchak Rabin.
MKs including Labor’s Ofir Pines was a staunch opponent to honoring Zik, feeling by doing so, and credibility was given to the former “pirate radio station,” namely Arutz-7, which has since been closed by the government.
Zik, who sported a kippa sruga and was clean shaven, was a welcome and familiar face at many a chassidishe tisch; and he was no less familiar in many a litvish yeshiva or yishuv in Yesha. His love for Am Yisrael and Eretz Yisrael crossed all boundaries, always supporting those who believed in a Torah way of life and recognized the holiness of Eretz Yisrael.

Hertzl, who initially proposed that all Jews convert to xtianity, has a CITY (and MANY streets) named after him, but it had to be a battle (B”H a victorious one) to name a single street after this Ohaiv Yisrael. Something is wrong with this picture…
