Israel has filed a formal complaint with the United Nations, stating Jerusalem holds the Government of Lebanon responsible for Friday’s rocket attacks into the Western Galil area. Baruch Hashem, the rockets landed in open areas and as a result, there were no injuries or damage.
The IDF pinpointed the area from which the rockets were fired, in southwestern Lebanon, responding with artillery shells. UNIFIL forces operating in southern Lebanon reported locating the launcher and additional rockets. Reports from Lebanon state four people in plainclothes were seen fleeing the scene.
IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi has ordered a heightened alert status along the northern border following the attack, a status that is expected to continue the entire week as the nation prepares for Rosh Hashanah.
United Nations Secretary General Bank ki-Moon condemned the attack, calling on all sides to exhibit restraint.
On shabbos morning, an explosion was heard in the Galil Panhandle area, but it was learned to have been caused by an old landmine that exploded, not a rocket attack.
