French officials are concerned over Russia’s policies, preparing to close a deal for advanced weapons with Iran. Russia is willing to sell Iran advanced S-300 and S-500 surface-to-air missiles, a reality that is cause for concern to all western nations.
French officials point out that such a deal would be in violation of UN Security Council decision, which call for an increased boycott against Iran, as well as a halt of weapons sales to Iran.
The French concerns follow a secret visit to Russia last week by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, which is believed to have been connected to other Russian weapons deals, with Syria, providing Damascus with advanced anti-aircraft missiles, a system that Israel fears will shift the regional balance of power in favor of Israel’s enemies.
Intelligence officials also fear weapons sold to Syria will eventually find their way in Hizbullah and Iranian hands.
