Israel Railways Uses Caution Following Derailment

Israel Railways announced on Sunday it is lowering operational maximum speed from 140 KPH (85 MPH) to 80 KPH (48 MPH) following last week’s derailment near Kfar Menachem. A number of people were injured in the derailment.

Israel Railways is sending 48 cars of the type involved in the derailment for inspection, and the reduced speed limit will continue until such time all of the cars receive a clean bill of health.

  1. yes, i noticed the slower trip this morning. will we still be eligible for a free ticket if the train is 1/2 hour late, or will it be 52.5 minutes (140/80*0.5 hours) ?

  2. That’s what happens if you work on shabbos.

I myself am a big train fan. In Europe, I always used trains for everything, from vacations to getting to work or anything else.

In Jerusalem the train is pretty much useless, except for tourists or those who live in the south and work in Tel Aviv.

But the Edah has called for a complete boycott of Israel Railways due to the fact that they carry out a lot of maintenance work on shabbos.
