Letter Attests to Shalit’s Difficult Mental State

gilad.jpgIn the letter received from Gilad Shalit three years ago, first being publicized now, the captive soldier speaks of the “unimaginable” situation, mental depression, and confirms his parent’s worst fears, that the soldier is having difficulty coping and. The letter is believed from about a month after he fell into captivity on June 25, 2006. Ironically, the letter speaks of his desire to return home, and a plea that everything possible be done to permit him to celebrate Rosh Hashanah and Sukkot with his family. The letter is released days before the soldier prepared to mark his fourth Rosh Hashanah in captivity.

The language used by Shalit lead officials to believe his captors dictated the text. His parents report they did not leak the letter to the media, now appearing round-the-world.

In June 2007, Gilad’s voice was heard in an audio tape to show he was alive, and other signs from the soldier include a Feb. 2008 letter, and a June 2008 letter received via the intervention of former US President Jimmy Carter.

  1. We should all include Gilad ben Aviva in our Tehillim. Hashem should bring him quickly and in a healthy state. “Tichleh Shanah V’Killeseha tichleh shanah u’birchash.

  2. Obama is worried stiff that someone overinterrogated the 911 butcher but hasn’t expressed any worry over Shalit being subjected to daily mental torture. Where are his scruples?
