Orit Ochana, 39, is a resident of the Jordan Valley community of Shdemot Mechola and a volunteer for Magen David Adom. It is not rare that she is dispatched on an emergency call to treat an Arab in the area.
This was the case a number of days ago, when she was dispatched to assist an Arab teen, who was recognized as the same person who a short time earlier in the day hurled rocks at her 13-year-old son as he passed the area.
When Orit arrived at the scene on the Jordan Valley Road, soldiers and police were already on the scene. She was asked to assist the youth who had deep cuts in his hands, and due to the activities of the security forces, she understood he was involved in some kind of illegal activity. She learned that he was throwing rocks at Israeli vehicles, including a vehicle her son was traveling in, on his way to yeshiva in Beit Shean. She learned this from the driver of the vehicle, a neighbor, who added the rock hit the windshield of his vehicle, but fortunately, it did not penetrate the vehicle.
The suspect, 18, was transported to a hospital, treated and then placed under arrest. The suspect, a resident of Tubas, told police he got into an argument with his father and decided to vent his wrath against Jewish motorists. After throwing rocks, he ran into the brush area, where he apparently fell and injured himself, returning to the main road in search of assistance.
Orit explains that she spent the entire shabbos wondering what would have happened if the rock broke the windshield and penetrated the vehicle.
