Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to Cairo next week for a meeting with President Hosni Mubarak and possibly General Omar Suleiman, the country’s intelligence chief. Accompanying the prime minister will be Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, who maintains an extremely cordial working relationship with the Egyptian leader.
The leaders will discuss ongoing efforts towards signing a deal for the release of Gilad Shalit. Egypt maintains a central role in mediated talks between Israel and Hamas. They are also expected to discuss efforts to renew a diplomatic process with the PA (Palestinian Authority).
Over the weekend, Hamas leader Khaled Meshal traveled from Syria to Cairo presumably related to ongoing talks surrounding Shalit’s release.
