With this week’s opening of the nation’s public schools, the IDF Homefront Command reports that in only 70% of schools located in the 40 km range from the Gaza border offer ‘adequate’ protection against rocket attack. Homefront officials remind the public that during Operation Cast Least, rockets were fired at communities within the 40 km range.
Schools lacking proper protection are primarily in the chareidi and Bedouin sectors.
Southern Command officials during the course of this school year are planning to reach every school in the 40 km area, to speak with students and provide instruction regarding attacks. Homefront commanders will also be meeting with mayors and municipality leaders to review emergency plans for areas within the rocket range.
The first municipality on the IDF’s agenda is the Bedouin community of Rahat.
