The UAE has intercepted a N. Korean weapons ship making its way to Iran, the Financial Times reports. News of the incident was reported by the UAE to the UN committee responsible for implementing sanctions imposed against N. Korea as per UN Resolution 1874.
The report quotes a UN diplomat whose country is represented on the committee, stating 10 containers of weapons and “related items” including rocket propelled grenades and launchers were included in the cargo. The shipment was ordered by the TSS Company, an Iranian firm linked to the country’s Revolutionary Guard.
The vessel, Bahamian-flagged ANL-Australia was permitted to leave UAE after being apprehended at least two weeks ago, and the UAE remains responsible to dispose of the confiscated weapons and ammunition.
