MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Anastasia Michaeli is calling for the establishment of a national school book bank, explaining parents have a difficult time purchasing new books for every child every year. The MK is the mother of eight.
Michaeli arrived in Knesset on Wednesday, armed with boxes of books that she bought for her children. She entered a session of the Education Committee and approached Minister Gideon Saar, explaining “parents spend NIS thousands on books and it is absurd”.
Michaeli and MK (Kadima) Ronit Tirosh, a former director-general of the Education Ministry, are working to establish a nationwide system by which students are given books on loan at the start of the school year, eliminating the need to meet the annual challenge of finding the funds to buy school books.

this is exactly what we did all through my school years in the states. each child gets the books he or she needs, at the beginning of the school year, from the school. the books are returned at the end of the year. the only books parents need by are those that are ruined by the kids. a good lesson in the making for taking care of our stuff, and a way out of the financial morass into which families end up falling, school year after school year. go MK Michaeli!
