The accident that occurred on the Jordan Valley Road near Mechola Junction on Tuesday was more serious than believed at the time. Three females sustained serious injuries, one being pregnant. She is described in her 30s and in the advanced stages of pregnancy, a Jerusalem resident. A Peugeot traveling north veered from its lane for reasons yet to be determined, slamming head-on into a Mitsubishi traveling northbound. The Peugeot was all but destroyed and heavy damaged was apparent in the front compartment of the Mitsubishi.
The seriously injured were flown by chopper to the trauma unit of Jerusalem’s Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital and the less seriously injured were taken to Ha’emek Hospital in Afula.
MDA chopper paramedic David Fisher reported the victims sustained serious multi system trauma.
About three months ago, five people including a child were killed on the same roadway. Of late, the road was widened in an effort to make it safer but it is still the scene of many a serious MVA.
