Representatives of the Israel Consumer Council will address a session of the Knesset Education Committee, presenting facts pertaining to what is viewed as serious realities in the nation’s public school system. Leading the list is the fact that many students are using textbooks that have not been approved by the ministry.
This refers to books appearing on school textbook lists, instructing parents to purchase the books for the year’s curriculum despite the fact they are not approved by the ministry for use.
Regarding food and snacks sold in schools, the council conducted a survey and maintains its findings show that most of the products offered are in violation of the agreement governing what may be sold, and the overwhelming majority of items are too fattening and unhealthy.
These two issues are atop of a longer list of issues that are being addressed today, less than a week before public schools open, in the hope of implementing change for the coming school year.
