A senior Eilat City Hall official is in custody for allegedly trying to run over a security agent in the city’s airport.

A security agent noticed a rented vehicle parked in proximity to the airport in an area off-limits for parking due to security considerations around the airport. The driver was instructed to move, but he refused to comply. The security agent summoned his supervisor, but the driver once again refused to comply to the order to move the vehicle. The supervisor explained the next step was to summon police, at which time the driver moved the vehicle.

As the driver moved from the scene, he struck the leg of the security agent, prompting him to fire at the vehicle, resulting in the driver coming to an abrupt halt. Police arrived and the driver, identified as a senior official in City Hall, was placed under arrest. The suspect was released with restrictions to house arrest. He denies trying to strike the security agent, insisting he stopped his vehicle to speak on his cellular telephone.

The security agent was also questioned, and then transported to a hospital for treatment.

City Hall announced it is weighing charges against both the senior official and the security agent.
