On August 17th, YWN and other agencies reported HERE that a chareidi family refused to permit their child to receive treatment at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital despite recommendation from physicians at Bikur Cholim Hospital, who insisted the best care for the child’s condition is at Hadassah. The parents however remained adamant in their refusal to permit their child to be transferred to Hadassah, a decision attributed to the boycott of Hadassah as a result of the Meah Shearim mom affair.
The story begins when the child was five-weeks-old, checked at an HMO and then admitted to Bikur Cholim Hospital, where doctors detected life-threatening bleeding in the child’s brainstem.
The family consulted with Rav E. Fuehrer and the despite the expertise of Hadassah’s Prof. Husa Cohen, Rav Fuehrer explained the child needs a pediatric neurosurgeon, pointing the parents to Shaare Zedek and its comprehensive pediatric neurology department. In addition, Kikar Shabbat in its report points out the number one pediatric neurosurgeon in Israel is viewed as Prof. Shlomi Constantini, who is affiliated with Dana Children’s Hospital in Tel Aviv. Shaare Zedek physicians were in constant touch with him regarding the infant’s treatment.
Therefore, the decision to transport the child to Shaare Zedek followed consultation with Rav Fuehrer and in the child’s best interest, nothing to do with the boycott of Hadassah.
Kikar adds that Prof. Constantini confirmed the report that he was involved in the decision-making process vis-à-vis the infant’s care, and quoted him as adding, “The child received better care in Shaare Zedek than he would have received in Hadassah”.
YWN Israel note: The report is presented as is, quoting Kikar Shabbat, pointing out the facts as presented in this subsequent report contradict statements from doctors at Bikur Cholim and from askan Dudi Zilbershlag.

interesting how Mr Spira always excepts the anti charedi version at face value, but when giving the charedi version he’ll make a point that its not exactly true. This was also the way he quoted the Hamevaser on the story with the yerushalmi mother. I think he might be trying too hard to show he’s impartial. [he should learn from Joe Lieberman, not Dennis Ross.
I think you mean Harav Firer and not Harav Fuehrer which is a rather sad mistake to make.
In addition the Dr. In Hadassah is called Dr. Jose Cohen.I appreciate that it is difficult when translating names from a Hebrew article to an English one bit some mistakes are inexcusable ( like calling a huge Tzaddik Rav Fuehrer)
I think they were trying to change the chassidishe pronunciation of “Firer” to the Litvisher, which would actually be “Fuehrer”
“The family consulted with Rav E. Fuehrer”
The Chatham Sofer once famously said: “Vie zenen rabbonim doktoir’n, az war eingefunen klal Yisrael zeir krank.”
@sam rose @Yonni regardless of how you pronounce his name, he was NEVER CONSULTED which makes me wonder where he author got his information from.
