As Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and a number of other government ministers prepare to embark on a public relations mission to the United States, the senior minister announced on Sunday that at present, there are some 1,000 lawsuits pending in various European courts against the Israeli government and the IDF.
While Lieberman stressed the nation stands behind its representatives, he confirmed that at present, only two attorneys are assigned to address the 1,000 cases.
Many of the lawsuits stem from IDF counter-terror operations in Hamas-controlled Gaza, including last year’s Operation Cast Lead, the major counter-terror offensive intended to bring a halt to years of rocket attacks into southern Israeli civilian population centers. Cast Lead resulted in a wave of lawsuits alleging IDF soldiers are guilty of war crimes.
