IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi told senior officials that in addition to the legalities surrounding the theft of his credit card information and a weapon from his Kirya office, the incident signals a major security beach that demands prompt attention and modification of operating protocol in the Defense Ministry complex.
Senior commanders are involved in the investigation and decision-making progress that will undoubtedly lead to new sterner security measures regarding security surrounding the offices of senior officers. One of the decisions is to hand over responsibility for the security to the military’s protection unit, which also undertakes responsibility for protecting the chief of staff and others as they move about.
While criminal indictments are being filed, the IDF commander is also weighing his response against those involved in the affair.
