Gilad Shalit’s Sister Entering the IDF

Hadas Shalit, Gilad Shalit’s sister, will on Wednesday be among the new recruits entering the IDF this Wednesday. Hadas prefers not to discuss her imminent induction and plans for military service with the media.

On Sunday, a recording will be made in a Petach Tikvah studio, a project that will include many performers in Israel. On Thursday, a birthday party will be held marking the captive soldier’s 23rd birthday [on the Gregorian calendar] in his home community of Mitzpei Hila. It will mark Gilad’s fourth birthday in captivity.

There have been numerous Arab media reports of advances in talks to obtain Shalit’s release. Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak recently told America’s PBS Broadcasting that a deal could have been reached but it was foiled at the last moment by Israel. Mubarak also confirmed Germany is playing an active negotiating role as efforts continue towards the signing of a prisoner release deal between Israel and Hamas.

  1. Did we become so immune to what many previous gedolim gave a psak that girls should be moser nefesh before being forced to enroll in the IDF that our yeshiva world is reporting this with a touch of pride?! This article gives it a sense of legitimacy and we would expect better from YW!

  2. Excuse me #1 and #2- I dont see any “touch of pride” or “sense of legitimacy” here. I read it as quite factual and no inherent problems with the reporting. Imagine what she is going through… have some rachmanos…
