Anger and concern seem to surround a case in which a soldier assigned to the Kirya (Defense Ministry), Israel’s equivalent to the Pentagon, entered the office of a high-ranking officer and made off with his credit card, confidential data and a weapon.
The story seems to point to a soldier assigned to the Kirya, who made off with credit card information, two M-16 assault rifles and a pistol. The weapons were sold to Arabs by the soldier’s brother for NIS 18,000. The credit card information was used and someone shopped for NIS 2,000 at the expense of the high-ranking officer.
A Jaffa Military Court on Thursday agreed to a partial lifting of a gag order on the ongoing investigation, but the court refused a request to permit revealing the identity of the high-ranking officer.
Authorities report the automatic weapons have already been recovered but the pistol is still missing.
One of grave concerns surrounding the case is the lack of security, with many questioning how the soldier accessed the office of a high-ranking officer and how the weapons disappeared.
