Today, Wednesday, August 12, 2009 is Gilad Shalit’s 23rd birthday. To mark the event, there will be an tefilla rally at the Kosel beginning at 7:00pm.
Among the notables scheduled to take part in the event is Tel Aviv Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita.
The family is calling on people from around the country, from all walks of life, to attend on behalf of their son, who is spending his fourth birthday in captivity.
Of late, there have Arab media reports on a deal that will result in Shalit’s release in the near future, before the end of Ramadan, but Hamas officials in Gaza have denied the accuracy of reports.

can someone please tell me what the maram of rotenberg would say about this . before everybody says how can you say such a thing , please remember he forbade for himself to be ransomed out of jail so German king at that time would not go out and kidnap Jewish rabbonim and demand and exorbitant ransom figuring that the Jews would pay whatever amount of money is asked from them to free there rabbis
my question is do the same rules apply here. to free Gilad Shalit’s the Arabs are asking for thousands of prisoners to be released , with lots of them who have blood on there hands.
were is the line drawn in the sand here . maybe if israel says we will not negotiate for our kidnapped soldiers then maybe the Arabs would stop trying to kidnap them .
