Monday Afternoon News Briefs from Eretz Yisrael


Bank of Israel Governor Stanly Fisher ordered a halt of the daily purchase of $100 million beginning tomorrow, Tuesday.

**A 76-y/o male with a chronic heart condition is admitted to an ICU in HaSharon Hospital after contracting swine flu. A pregnant woman who was in critical condition in Hadassah En Kerem Hospital has improved and is no longer in an ICU.

**The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court extended the remand of 20-y/o Nachal Chareidi soldier Shmuel Freimark, who threatened organizers of the motzei shabbos to’eva rally at Rabin Square. Freimark was taken into custody on motzei shabbos, not on shabbos itself as was erroneously reported earlier.

**DM Ehud Barak on Sunday took part in the hachnasas sefer torah in the Ohel Yitzchak shul in the so-called Muslim Quarter of Jerusalem’s Old City. Aides to the minister released a statement confirming Barak’s participation, offering an explanation perhaps to appease the United States, that the shul is located on the border of the Jewish Quarter, only “meters from the Kosel”.

**Jews threw rocks at Arab vehicles on Monday afternoon near the Shomron community of Yitzhar, possibly as part of Operation Price Tag, in response to the removal of structures in the Maoz Esther outpost. An Arab field was also set ablaze in the area.

**Retired High Court Justice Yehuda Cohen was niftar. He was the father of Beersheva District Court Justice Varda Marouz. Cohen served on the court from 1981-1984, preceded by a career as a Jerusalem District Court judge, for 26 years. Cohen was best known for his role heading the 1995 Cohen Commission, investigating the plight of the missing Yemenite Children.

**AG Mazuz announced a bribery investigation against former PM Olmert has been closed due to lack of evidence.
