5:00PM EST: Eastbound traffic was congested along a lengthy stretch of Route 17 Sunday due in part to construction zones in the vicinity of the Middletown exits.

State police in late morning had received reports of congestion from as far as Liberty exit 100 in Sullivan County, but were not certain if the congestion was consistent or sporadic. Westbound traffic was flowing smoothly, state police said.

Pavement repair work is being done between exits 120 and 121.
