Full House at Jerusalem Great Synagogue Shabbos

helfgot.jpgThere was not a seat to be had, with hundreds unable to get in for shabbos morning davening in Jerusalem’s Great Synagogue, where Chazzan Chaim Adler was joined by legendary Yitzchak Meir Helfgot. Many arrived early to get in, with hotels in proximity to the shul reporting full occupancy as many decided to make this a special shabbos, hoping to get in and be one of the privileged to take part in the special shabbos morning tefilla.

The chazzanim were accompanied by the Jerusalem Great Synagogue Choir and the Yuval Choir, conducted by Elli Jaffe and Dr. Mordechai Sobol.

Also present was HaRav Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita, who gave the shabbos morning dvar torah, adding to the unique electrifying atmosphere that prevailed.

  1. Uh…hello? Is this an honest report of what went on there? Aren’t you skipping a little something?…The Israeli forums are full of outraged people who were there.
It’s okay to refrain from reporting a great fiasco and Chillul Hashem, but then what’s the story?
That the Great synagogue was full? Really now…

  2. 4# There were arab selectors at th doors. I leave the rest to your imganation, o perhaps Yechiel Spira will fill us in on the full true story. from my experiance this will not happen, and i would be suprised if this post was published

  3. #1…Good comment!
    #3…Hopefully not..Shabbos and all…sorry.

And what I meant were reports of violence, breaking a window, blows, tear gas traded between Arab security guards, potential mispalelim, and Zali Jaffe.
Some blame Zali for locking the synagogue doors 15 minutes before davening began, although they claim there was much standing and some sitting room. Others say it was a fire hazard…

B”h, I did not attend, see comment #1…Either way, it’s a shame on our community.

  4. I doubt this will get published because it’s site criticism but I’m starting to wonder (after examples like this) how much of the news from Israel is being filtered by Mr. Spira at his own discretion.

If YeshivaWorld is presenting itself as an op-ed site, fine. If they’re presenting themselves as a news site, then this is highly irresponsible.
