Egyptian media reports security officials have uncovered a plot to assassinate Israel’s Ambassador to Cairo, Shalom Cohen.
According to the Saturday edition of the al-Masry al-Youm, the assassins planned to bomb the ambassador’s home and the embassy. The plot took place last year, resulting in the arrest of three suspects.
According to the report, Yasser Abdel-Kader Abdel-Fatah, Faraj Rajwan al-Ma’ani and Ahmad al-Sayyed al-Shaarawi admitted they planned to detonate a bomb in the embassy and thereby killing the ambassador. Egypt reports security officials succeeded in uncovering the plot before it could be carried out.
The suspects in custody appear connected to other Egyptian-based terror, including incidents in Sinai.
