Israel Training for Possible Conflict with Hizbullah

According to a leading Saudi Arabian news agency, quoting information from the Pentagon, recent statements surrounding an increase of northern border tensions in Israel surround ongoing extensive IDF maneuvers in preparation for a major offensive against Hizbullah bases along the Litani River, the daily HaMevaser reports.

The report quoting senior American military sources states elite IDF units are ready to move, to attack front-line Hizbullah positions along the Litani.

This week, one senior IDF Northern District commander made a statement that the situation along the northern border is increasingly tense, pointing to a possible military confrontation in the near or even immediate future.

Speaking to Israel Radio, Defense Minister Ehud Barak denied any unusual border tensions, stating Israel always carefully monitors its northern and southern borders, further stating the realities of the Middle East are such that a volatile situation may flare up at any moment, but cautiously explained he is unaware of any particular concerns at present.

He added “listen to IDF Chief of Staff Lt.-General Gabi Ashkenazi” if you want the real picture, relying on statements released by Ashkenazi that reports of immediate concerns along the northern border are inaccurate.
