Labor Party leader Ehud Barak appears to losing control as the rebel faction gains momentum and threatens to break the party apart from the inside out.
In the latest Smith poll commissioned by Yediot Achronot, Labor would earn six seats if elections were held today, signaling major voter dissatisfaction, down from the party’s current 13 seats.
The party is scheduled to meet on Wednesday despite objections from the opponents of Ehud Barak. Analysts explain that it is uncertain just how many party members will attend the meeting, adding some feel a split in the party is all but imminent.
The other major parties would also lose seats according to the poll, showing Likud at 21, down from 27, and Kadima with 18, down from 28.
While Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman is facing a criminal indictment for alleged fraud charges, the Yisrael Beitenu party leader does not appear to be in the same position as the other leading parties, earning 12 seats in the poll, only dropping one mandate.
The poll shows 27 mandates are currently “undecided” as the voters indicate they are less than pleased with the major coalition and opposition parties.
