The Vaad L’maan Shabbos this week was involved in efforts to prevent the opening of yet another store in Yerushalayim on the Holy Day, a supermarket located at 2 Beitar Street in the Armon HaNatziv area of the city.

The rav of the neighborhood, Rabbi Nachum Zemel Shlita called on the vaad to assist him in his efforts after the store’s owner made his intentions clear, that he will be operating 24/7.

Vaad head Rav Yosef Rosenfeld explains that the store hopes to attract the shoppers from the entire area since the area’s main supermarket, Shefa Shuk, is closed on shabbos.

Rav Zemel explained the difficulty of the situation, pointing out that over the years; the community has maintained a shomer shabbos atmosphere and this would represent a new trend chas v’sholom.
