IDF Brigadier-General Eyal Zamir is taking a hard position in the unfolding abuse case that has tarnished the good name of the Armored Corps. As commander of the 36th Armored Division, Zamir has ordered a permanent notation of the events placed in the files of the current and previous battalion commanders due to the severity of the evidence in the abuse case.
Northern District Commander Major-General Gadi Eisenkott has dismissed the company commander from his post, and has sent him to prison for a month.
Military police are continuing to investigate the reports of abuse and hazing against soldiers lasting some eight days. Junior officers, platoon commanders, are being questioned and additional action is expected as the evidence in the case mounts.
Senior officials also reports measures are being taken to avoid any recurrence of such unacceptable actions in the future.
