According to the London-based al-Quds al-Arabi, due to the efforts of special Mideast envoy George Mitchell, mediated talks between Israel and Syria are expected to resume “in the coming days”. There is no official Israeli response to the report.

In the past, limited contact took place between Syria and the administration of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert via Turkey, acting as a go-between.
