The Interior Ministry’s new Ohz unit began operating on July 1st with one objective, to oust all illegal aliens from Israel by 2013. That means the unit’s goal is to apprehend and expel some 280,000 people, which includes many foreign workers who arrived and worked legally for five years, but then remained, children born to them, and tourists who remained after their visas expired.

Since the unit began operating some two weeks ago, 221 arrests were made and officials have set a goal of 20,000 by the end of 2009.
