An indictment is being handed down against officials in the Beitzei Tzedek egg company in Chadera, who have been selling biological reproductive eggs as eggs for consumption. Health officials report that the eggs sold were bred for experimentation, under less sanitary conditions than eggs for eating, and they are unsuitable for the marketplace.
Inspectors confiscated 34,560 eggs, 1,152 flats of 30 eggs, stamped and ready for the marketplace. Dr. Rami Lem of the Ministry of Agriculture, these eggs are intended to hatch, not to be eaten, and the pose a health concern to the general public.
Agriculture officials issued an order closing the institute, but the owners turned to the court which accepted their petition, citing the loss of revenue, permitting them to reopen.
Attorneys for the company released a statement that the eggs sold were indeed suitable for the marketplace, stating the company holds the public safety in the highest regard.
