A number of Lebanese nationals waving Hizbullah flags caused a border incident on Shabbos as they crossed the border in the Mount Dov area. Among the unarmed civilians were women and children. This is not an unusual occurrence when terrorists seek to observe the IDF response at a particular border crossing or area. Similar events are somewhat commonplace at checkpoints between PA (Palestinian Authority) autonomous areas and areas under Israel’s control.
The dozens of civilians waving Hizbullah flags came to an abandoned IDF outpost.
In response to the incident, UNIFIL officials have indicated they will increase their presence in the area to avoid an escalation of tensions along the border between northern Israel and southern Israel.
The IDF released a statement viewing the incident as a severe violation of UN Resolution 1701, the Second Lebanon War ceasefire agreement and added a warning that anyone crossing the border must take into account they may be in harm’s way.
